The power and critique of passion

April 29, 2023by Editorial Team

When every other factor squares up, it is passion that determines who has the edge. Indeed it makes you blend and be one with your dream. However, some do take it with a grain of salt.

Passion,  the driving force

Whether an individual is planning to start a small business or deciding his career paths, passion must be factored into that equation . While characteristics like strong values , intellect , talent , ambition , discipline, persistence and luck are all major factors but following one’s passion can make the most significant difference of all .Psychologists say that passion is the greatest accelerant of our career.

Anything could fuel one’s passion. For one who is fascinated by nature, he gains invaluable life lessons from nature itself. As it It inspires one to reduce , reuse and recycle, conserve water and plant more trees, it helps to reduce stress , anxiety and anger thus helping feel more content.

Role of passion in one’s life

It makes you more resilient when you encounter obstacles. Passionate people have a more positive attitude to life and can overcome their difficulty through a problem solving approach.
Steve Job had said, “Do what you love. People with passion can change the world for the better”. All you need to do is follow your own instinct. You don’t necessarily have to have a grand plan or a roadmap for your entire life. Just make the day to day and month to month choice which align with what you enjoy and what you do well and activities which contribute to your community. These will add up to a life which brings you fulfilment and adds to others’ fulfilment as well. To exercise passion, one has to have the power of “grit” that helps overcome fears. Once we apply the principles in our daily life, this power of grit can help to change our life’s course.

Passion must indeed be a part of any decision, whether starting a small business or changing career paths. While characteristics such as strong values, talent, ambition, intellect, discipline, persistence and luck all contribute to business and career; it is passion that makes the most significant difference.

The undertones

“Follow your passion and success will follow you”, we’ve all heard about it before, that your passion is a great way to succeed in your career- but is this really legitimate?

There’s some pushback on passion, of course. It is worth questioning whether passion is just a pipedream and whether it is better to be more pragmatic about your chances of employment and wage security.
Passion, afterall is a term used to denote strong and barely controllable emotion or inclination with respect to a particular person or thing. So, is it truly acceptable that an overt drive of uncontrolled emotion can actually help us get closer to success?
