Life seems a perpetually complex entity. To achieve our aspirations and dreams, we need motivation. But this motivation itself seems to be a strong reason for casting a spanner in this wheel. Such is its complex nature. Here, however, we strive to get a clarity.
Getting motivated
How a conducive environment affects motivation
Environment accounts for 70% of our success. It can either motivate us towards improvement or stall our progress with a negative influence. Along with a supportive environment with clear goals and opportunities, additional factors such as noise level , temperature and a conducive social environment can play a crucial role in increasing our productivity and achieving our goals.
Strategising: creating a positive environment
To begin with, look out for people who can inspire you. You can look at what they do, analyze how they got there and how they overcame challenges and difficulties, and then apply the same to your own situation. Validate all information by applying your critical thinking to everything you are exposed to. It is advisable to get all information cross referred from a reliable source. One is likely to encounter distractions from our physical environment as we strive towards our goals. Here it is important to prioritize our goal and stay focused. Maintaining a clutter-free work environment with a clean and organised workdesk is very helpful in keeping our focus at work.
Strategising: removing the negative influences
Simultaneously it is also important to cut down on the negative information one is exposed to. For instance, people are increasingly refraining from watching news for which they mostly cite the negativity of the news filled with crime and crisis as the main reason. We do not get clarity with our tasks, instead creates a lot of additional reasons to worry, that may lead to distraction and procrastination. . We should keep ourselves away from news and social media apps as far as possible, checking on them only during breaks. Anything redundant should be kept aside so as not to interfere with our work zone. This makes the environment conducive for effective work since it is not possible to manage more than three projects simultaneously. In this mode, one might have to say no to some opportunities. However it is better to take 20 steps in one direction than taking one step in 20 directions.
One is more easily drawn to focus on negative things than positive ones. It has been demonstrated by social psychologists that human mind is more prone to keep itself glued onto negative events than positive ones. This makes it necessary for us to put in more effort to remove the negative impact of the toxic element in your life. So let us say no to things that make us unhappy. We have one life which is not worth wasting on negative experiences.
