Motivation, rather the lack of it assumes humongous proportions for all; learners in particular. Here we spike and spice up ourselves with the gallery of ways in which one can get himself motivated.
A journey in motivation
Curiosity the precursor to motivation
Our motivation is mostly incited by curiosity; providing the spark that ignites Motivation. It becomes essential to keep this curiosity alive, which one can accomplish through diverse means. Embracing the unknown, openness to new experiences, propensity to ask questions, venturing out of one’s comfort zone, investigating intriguing topics are some of the things we can do to this effect. At the learners’ level, curiosity is propelled by cultivating a spirit of research and investigation, analysis and evaluation of the learnings, culminating with application of the insights to one’s life. Embracing curiosity enables us discover new passions and skills, enhance our problem solving skills, that in turn helps us stay motivated and engaged.
How to get motivated
To remain motivated it is important, amongst other things , to set realistic goals, celebrate small wins, and analyze failures to learn from them. Along with honest self acceptance, we need to adopt healthy coping mechanisms like exercise, meditation, or journaling keeping ourselves strictly away from substance abuse and unhealthy addictions. As we prioritize our goals, one would also need to invest in personal growth through books, courses, or workshops, developing new skills and interests; all to be pursued with self-discipline and self-control.
To stay focussed and not lose motivation, consistency and discipline are key. In fact, it requires a combination of mindset, habits, and support. Having defined specific, achievable goals that align with our values and passions, we should divide large goals into smaller, manageable tasks to maintain momentum. One has to follow a consistent schedule, monitoring the progress along the way. All along, our physical, mental, and emotional well-being need to be taken good care of; not to forget a special treatment to oneself on completing a challenging task.
Carrying it forward
Whenever I feel unmotivated and stuck, I draw immense inspiration from the quote by Nelson Mandela: “The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.” This motivates me further to share such inspiring stories with friends and family to help them find their passion.I feel inspired to set and achieve goals along with my friends, such as studying for exams or training for a sports team. I get inspired to help others overcome obstacles, for instance offering to tutor or advice during their struggle. I would like to create a supportive group where we can encourage and motivate each other. Thus, by being a positive influence around, I can help create a motivated and supportive community around me.
Key learnings
Motivation, thus, is not something you either have or you don’t; it is a faculty that can be strengthened with effort and learning. Apart from our own inner drive, relating to others’ experiences and sharing our own can also inspire and also motivate us. It influences our direction, growth, success, happiness, and relationships. As we try to surround ourselves with motivated people and set our own goals, we can continue to stay motivated and focused.\
